Dental Fillings for Kids in Allentown
Tooth decay is one of the most prevalent childhood diseases. Early intervention can prevent small cavities from evolving into painful abscesses, areas of decay in neighboring teeth, or permanent orthodontic complications such as impacted teeth or tooth loss.
At Lesavoy Pediatric Dentistry, Dr. Bret Lesavoy incorporates minimally invasive dental filling treatments to keep your child as healthy as possible.

Although your child’s primary teeth will eventually fall out and be replaced with permanent ones, decay at any age can have long-lasting effects. Children are susceptible to dental decay due to a combination of factors, including, but not limited to, their personal oral hygiene habits, dietary choices, and issues like crowding. Left unaddressed, cavities can cause severe pain, grow to warrant premature extractions of baby teeth that can lead to larger orthodontic needs in the future, lead to cysts in their jaws, or in rare situations, require hospitalization due to systemic signs and symptoms of infection that could arise. Repairing small cavities with minimally invasive fillings stops the spread of decay before it progresses.
Our team is skilled in creating a comfortable and anxiety-free environment to ensure that your child's experience is as pleasant as possible. Dr. Lesavoy uses white composite fillings, which are minimally invasive and blend in with your child’s smile. To treat the decay, he will ensure your child’s maximum comfort, clean out the diseased tooth structure, then fill the area with the composite resin. When your child smiles, the tooth-colored filling blends right in.
Preventing cavities starts at home, and it's a collaborative effort between you, your child, and our dental team. Make a point to brush twice a day, floss daily, and encourage them to drink plenty of fluoridated tap water. By planning regular checkups with Dr. Lesavoy, we can intercept cavities while they are still small. If your child is especially cavity prone, we may also prescribe an at-home fluoride gel to use each day.
One of the most common misconceptions about cavities is that you can see tooth decay in your child’s tooth. In reality, many cavities lurk just below the chewing surface or between teeth, both of which are naked to the human eye. Dr. Lesavoy will use digital X-rays as needed based on your child’s individual risk level to help screen for cavities even if your child isn’t in pain.
